Apple will launch two new iPad models in the coming Macworld|iWorld conference on January 26th, 2012, reports Digitimes. The higher end model is expected to carry battery of double capacity than of the current iPad.

The report claims, that Apple have prepared to unveil two new iPad versions “one for the high-end segment and one for the mid-range segment”. The iPads will be having 9.7″ screens, QXGA resolution 1536×2048 Retina Displays, A6 processors, 5-megapixel and 8-megapixel cameras, Dual-LED light bars are designed for the new iPads to strengthen the brightness of the panels and over double the battery capacity (6500mAH -> 14,000mAH) for the higher end model.

Samsung will continue to manufacture quad-core A6 processors for Apple to be used in next gen iPads. Sharp will be the major panel supplier for Apple’s next-generation iPad series, while Samsung Electronics and LG Display are also responsible for a part of the orders, the sources of the reports confirms.

Samsung is also among the CMOS image sensor (CIS) suppliers for one of the versions of the new iPad that comes with a 5-megapixel lens, marking the Korea-based vendor’s first time to grab CIS orders from Apple, the sources noted. Sony is the other CIS supplier for the other model with a higher 8-megapixel lens, the sources added.

Apple currently uses battery suppliers Simplo Technology and Dynapack, the two companies also denied to provide any inputs to the report. Also in January 2009, Apple had its last official presence at the show and they has completely denied to attend the event two years back and stating such events to be minor part of Apple’s overall strategy.

Since then Apple used to launch its products in their own organized media events. Digitimes had always been a reliable source of information but next gen iPads have contradictory reports from various sources.

The report fromZDNet claims that American Airlines has been conducted first tests of iPad in flights, which was noted by Allied Pilots Association in June. AA is the first airlines to get the official authorization to use iPad in all phases of flight. Both the original iPad and iPad 2 models have been approved. By using electronic charts and manuals, the safety and efficiency on the flight deck is significantly enhanced.

Subsequently, UPS, Alaska, and United Airlines are now in process of considering including iPad in their flights. The first flight to carry officially iPad will be B-777 aircraft starting from Friday, following replacement in other aircrafts. FAA approval is given as 6 months trial period time after which they will gather and evaluate the results.

According to Seattle Pi, Using iPad in flght cockpits will additionally save $1.2 million in fuel savings per year as it will shed approximately 35 pounds of weight of documentation from each flight. First Officer Hank Putek of the APA Safety Committee had to say about the new iPad flight bags:

By eliminating bulky flight bags filled with paper, (electronic flight bags) mean less weight for pilots to carry, reducing the possibility of injury on duty. In addition, they enable pilots to immediately download updates, rather than waiting for paper versions of required documents to be printed and distributed.

Apple iPad is really an amazing product, proving itself in all fields, whether it is education, management, hospitals or entertainment.

Apple has released iOS 5.1 beta 2 developer version (build 9B5127c). The release brings the awaited ability to manage photos in PhotoStream. Users can remove photos from their iCloud Photo Stream.

NEW: Photos taken using iOS 5.1 can be deleted from Photo Stream on your device and will be removed automatically from Photo Stream on your other iOS 5.1 devices. Older photos can be manually deleted from your iOS 5.1 devices

Additionally, the build also brings bug fixes but the software can be downloaded only who have signed in the developers program from Apple Developer site. iOS 5.1 is compatible with for iPad (3G, WiFi), iPad 2 (3G, WiFi), iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 (GSM, CDMA), iPhone 3GS, and the 3rd and 4th generation iPod touch models.

Along with the iPhone and iPad, the Apple TV and Xcode have also seen an update. Below is the complete release notes:

Notes and Known Issues

The following issues relate to using the 5.1 SDK to develop code.Accounts

When creating an iCloud account, you can use any Apple ID as long as it is a full email address and not a MobileMe account. If you have a MobileMe account, you can move that account to iCloud. You can find more information at: http://me.com/move

APIs

 The
NSNetService
class and CFNetService APIs do not include P2P interfaces by default. To browse, register, or resolve services over P2P interfaces, an application needs to use the Bonjour
DNSService*()
APIs noted below.

Setting the interfaceIndex parameter to
kDNSServiceInterfaceIndexAny
in the following API’s will not include P2P interfaces by default. To include P2P interfaces, you must now set the
kDNSServiceFlagsIncludeP2P
flag when using
kDNSServiceInterfaceIndexAny
or set the interfaceIndex to
kDNSServiceInterfaceIndexP2P
. The affected APIs are:

DNSServiceBrowse

DNSServiceRegister

DNSServiceResolve

DNSServiceRegisterRecord

DNSServiceQueryRecord

GameKitFIXED: App icons and profile photos are not loading in apps using Game Center.

iCloud Photo Stream

NEW: Photos taken using iOS 5.1 can be deleted from Photo Stream on your device and will be removed automatically from Photo Stream on your other iOS 5.1 devices. Older photos can be manually deleted from your iOS 5.1 devices.

iCloud Storage

Provisioning profiles must be enabled for iCloud in the iOS Provisioning Portal. To enable a provisioning profile for iCloud, navigate to the App ID section of the iOS Provisioning Portal and configure your App ID for iCloud. After enabling the App ID for iCloud, regenerate your provisioning profiles to enable them for iCloud.

The
setSortDescriptors:
method of
NSMetadataQuery
is not supported.

In iOS 5, files that are protected via Data Protection cannot be used with iCloud Storage APIs.

File names are case-insensitive in Mac OS X but case-sensitive in iOS. This can lead to problems when sharing files between the two using iCloud. You should take steps on iOS to avoid creating files whose names differ only by case.

Movie Player

Starting in iOS 5.0, in order to facilitate finer-grained playback control, a movie player is not automatically prepared to play upon creation. Call the
prepareToPlay
method to prepare the movie player. For more information, see MPMoviePlayerController Class Reference

Music Player

Using shake-to-shuffle causes Music app to freeze and playback to stop.

Security

In iOS 5, signing certificates with MD5 signatures is not supported. Please ensure that certificates use signature algorithms based on SHA1 or SHA2.

Setup Assistant

NEW: Immediately after completing the Setup Assistant, it may re-appear and show the wifi screen and/or final “Thank You” screen. The workaround when in this loop is to reboot the device.

SpringBoard Lock Screen

NEW: The lock screen can intermittently get in a state where double-clicking the home button will no longer bring up the camera button. To get out of that state, you need to restart the device.

Xcode/Developer Tools

NEW: This preview release of Xcode 4.3 is distributed as a single application bundle, Xcode.app. Delivering the Xcode tools in a single app bundle allows Xcode to be installed directly from the App Store, without the additional step of running the Install Xcode app. To install Xcode during the preview period, double-click to open the downloaded DMG file, and drag the
Xcode.app
file to your Applications folder.Within Xcode, you can launch additional developer tools, such as Instruments and FileMerge, via the menu item Xcode -> Open Developer Tool. You can then pin the tool on your Dock for access when Xcode is not running. Not all of the tools previously included in the Xcode installer are bundled in this preview release.

In the iOS 5 development tools, it is possible to extract APIs used by an application and have them checked for use of private APIs. This option is offered when you validate your application for app submission.

FIXED: A bug in the documentation organizer causes an exception when you type in any field in the content area. To prevent the need to log into the developer website from Xcode, download documentation sets locally using Xcode’s documentation preference pane and enable the ‘Check for and install updates automatically’ checkbox as a workaround.

FIXED: “uninstall-devtools” script mistakenly removes files and packages even if Xcode is still running. Be sure to quit any running copy of Xcode before starting the “uninstall-devtools” script.

<FIXED: The Network Link Conditioner daemon cannot be launched after installing the Networking Link Conditioner without a reboot. You can manually workaround the issue with a restart or by the following command: sudo launchctl load /system/library/launchdaemons/com.apple.networklinkconditioner.plist.]

TJ Maxx is offering best deal for 16GB Wi-Fi iPad 2 with $100 off a week after Black Friday. Few tipsters on twitter has reported of getting iPad 2 for $399 in selected TJ Maxx stores with a limited stock. Last year also TJ Maxx has come up with a similar deal for the original iPad.

As per the report, the stock will be limited to 15 units per store. The is the best deal yet for iPad 2 though last year Apple has confirmed TJ Maxx not to be official Apple reseller and last year’s offer was more a publicity stunt due to a very limited stock.

On the occasion of Black Friday, other store deals were $80 off with Walmart, Best Buy with $45 discount and Apple had offered $41 off on 16 GB iPad 2. But if you are still thinking to get your iPad 2, it seems to be the best time to stop and check by the nearest TJ Maxx store for the offer.

9to5Mac confirms conversation with TJ MAXX in Lakewood, NY and they have confirmed of having iPad 2 for $399 and have 25 units in stock. So what are you waiting for, call and check your store also.

Can sharing thoughts with friends on Social networking sites kill your job? Yes, it can, at least if you work for Apple and criticize about the company publicly on networking sites. Samuel Crisp from Norwich, who was working as a specialist in the computer giant’s Chapel-field store has lost his job when for criticizing his iPhone, his job and about the company on Facebook, reports Metro.co.uk,.

Samuel Crisp is his 20s, working as a specialist was not happy with his position in the company and shared his discomfort with his friends on Facebook. In another instance, while testing an app on his iPhone he posted:

‘****ed up my time zone for the third time in a week and woke me up at 3am? JOY!!’

He also poked on company’s tagline “Tomorrow is just another day. That you’ll never forget” when it offered Beatles songs on iTunes, he posted ”Tomorrow’s just another day that hopefully I will forget.’

All these abuses were reported to Crisp’s manager, Lindsay Cruickshank, by one of his colleague who was connected to him on Facebook. Lindsay initially suspended then finally fired him from the job. In oppose, Crisp filed a claim with an employment tribunal, but the panel also took decision in favor of Apple stating:

We take into account their position that the Facebook posts were not truly private and could in fact have been forwarded very easily with the claimant having no control over this process.

Unlike other major companies, Apple has also set social media policies that banned critical remarks about the brand and the criticisms but many people might not be aware of such polices. One should always be careful before posting any inappropriate status updates or pictures of their employers on any social networking sites like Facebook, google+ as that can also put your job in danger.

The latest software update OS 5.1 beta has disabled home screen shortcut but still you can create shortcuts on your home screen with the help of new method iPhone Settings Shortcuts discovered by iOS developer Jeff Broderick. The method does not require any jailbreak, easy to apply and most important, its absolutely FREE. Check the steps in just a short while.

Prior to the iOS 5.1 beta release, “Icon Project tool” allowed creating shortcuts for setting like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Airplane Mode, and Brightness control on your home screen and it required the app to be purchased for $ 0.99.

The alternate free hack is not a app to be downloaded from app store, instead it is a webapp and uses “URL scheming” enabling web apps to gain access to certain parts of the iPhone’s operating system. Just follow the steps below to create own iPhone Settings Shortcuts.

Steps for iPhone Settings Shortcuts

Step 1: Firstly, open brdrck.me/settings in Safari browser from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. You will see the entire settings options of which you can create shortcuts to access from your home screen as seen in the screen below.

Step 2: Now, select the settings toggle icon for which you want create shortcut on you homescreen. You will see two icons to choose from, one is default and another icon. You can select anyone and press “Install Shortcut”.

Step 3: A prompt will appear to install a profile. Click the “Install Now” button to continue.

Step 4: You’re done. Now you can see the selected settings shortcut installed on your home screen as we have installed “brightness settings” shortcut.

The trick can be used with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The hack is quite simple and easy to use and since its free can be definitely used.

The latest released iOS 5.1 Beta firmware has leaked many references to the upcoming Apple in line products. The traces were found for next gen iPhone i.e. iPhone 5, iPad 2,4, iPad 3 and Apple TV 3 traces in the SDK of iOS 5.1 beta. Lets see the finding one by one.

iPhone 5:

The document contains code string for next gen iPhone, which is dubbed as iPhone 5,1 which is probable model number for iPhone 5, internally. Earlier models were also internally found with similar representation as product numbers as follows.

iPhone1,1 - Original iPhone
iPhone1,2 - iPhone 3G
iPhone2,1 - iPhone 3GS
iPhone3,1 - iPhone 4
iPhone4,1 - iPhone 4S

For minor enhancements product number iPhone 4,x will be used as per Apple earlier analogies but iPhone 5,1 indicates that Apple is working on a major change in the product, probably a brand new processor, which is anticipated to be A6. Yesterday, there was already news of Sony and Hitachi supplying 4 inch LCD screen for upcoming Apple devices. Hopefully, iPhone 5 will be carrying a larger screen and also aluminum casing.

iPad 3 & iPad 4,2:

In the iOS 5.1 beta SDK a new product id iPad 2,4 and iPad 3,3 has been discovered suggesting a variant of iPad 2 and the next version of iPad. It is expected that Apple is working on to incorporate some minor changes to the current iPad 2 line which could be adding Sprint as a supporting carrier which is indicated by iPad 2, 4 model number. The current variants of iPad 2 had their product name coding as follows

iPad2,1 - Wi-Fi iPad
iPad2,2 - AT&T iPad 2
iPad2,3 - Verizon iPad 2

iPad 3 is already rumored to launch by march 2012. With these two new models iPad seems to be have two new products in the current pipeline.

Apple TV 3:

The new Apple TV(3,1) code name J33 is spotted in the iOS 5.1 beta SDK which was initially discovered by iH8Sn0w. The new Apple TV is rumored to have A5 dual core processor that Apple is already using in iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. Additionally, it could also focus on cloud-based services.

iOS 5.1 beta release have brought the next major products in line of Apple that will be released in 2012. It is anticipated that in Spring 2012 we will see Pad 3 and Apple TV 3 and summer / fall 2012 will bring iPhone 5.

Apple has today seeded iOS 5.1 beta for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch for developers. The update contains the fix for battery life issues and is available for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad 1, and iPod touch.

As iOS 5.1 is for developers, so those who have enrolled in iOS developer center can only download and test the build. You can check the complete release notes below.

iOS 5.1 Beta Release Notes

Introduction

iOS SDK 5.1 provides support for developing iOS applications and includes the complete set of Xcode tools, compilers, and frameworks for creating applications for iOS and Mac OS X. These tools include the Xcode IDE and the Instruments analysis tool among many others.

With this software you can develop applications that run on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 5.1. You can also test your applications using the included iOS Simulator, which supports iOS 5.1. There are two Xcode iOS SDK 5.1 images, one for installing on a Macintosh computer running Mac OS X 10.6.7 (Snow Leopard) or later, the other for installing on a Macintosh computer running Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion).

This version of iOS is intended only for installation on devices registered with Apple’s developer program. Attempting to install this version of iOS in an unauthorized manner could put your device in an unusable state.

For more information and additional support resources, visit:

http://developer.apple.com/programs/ios/

Bug Reporting

Please report any bugs not mentioned in the “Introduction” section using the Apple Bug Reporter on the Apple Developer website (http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/). Additionally, you may discuss these issues and iOS SDK 5 in the Apple Developer Forums: http://devforums.apple.com. You can also access more information about iCloud for Developers at:http://developer.apple.com/icloud

Notes and Known Issues

The following issues relate to using the 5.1 SDK to develop code.

Accounts

When creating an iCloud account, you can use any Apple ID as long as it is a full email address and not a MobileMe account. If you have a MobileMe account, you can move that account to iCloud. You can find more information at: http://me.com/move

APIs

The
NSNetService
class and CFNetService APIs do not include P2P interfaces by default. To browse, register, or resolve services over P2P interfaces, an application needs to use the Bonjour
DNSService*()
APIs noted below.

Setting the interfaceIndex parameter to
kDNSServiceInterfaceIndexAny
in the following API’s will not include P2P interfaces by default. To include P2P interfaces, you must now set the
kDNSServiceFlagsIncludeP2P
flag when using
kDNSServiceInterfaceIndexAny
or set the interfaceIndex to
kDNSServiceInterfaceIndexP2P
. The affected APIs are:

DNSServiceBrowse

DNSServiceRegister

DNSServiceResolve

DNSServiceRegisterRecord

DNSServiceQueryRecord

GameKit

App Icons and Profile Photos are not loading in apps using Game Center.

iCloud Storage

Provisioning profiles must be enabled for iCloud in the iOS Provisioning Portal. You can enable a provisioning profile for iCloud by navigating to the App ID section of the iOS Provisioning Portal and configuring your App ID for iCloud.

For more information, see MPMoviePlayerController Class Reference.

Music Player

Using shake-to-shuffle causes Music app to freeze and playback to stop.

Newsstand

FIXED: Deleting an issue that was marked as the currently reading issue could cause a crash.

Security

In iOS 5, the signing of certificates with MD5 signatures is not supported. Please ensure that certificates use signature algorithms based on SHA1 or SHA2.
